Hedgehog Release Gardens

Hedgehogs need to be returned to the same area they were rescued from. They know their home range, are aware of the dangers, and can find food. They may also have evolutionary adaptations to the local area that help them survive, including resistance to certain diseases.

We always try to return the hedgehog to the finder, but sometimes they are unable to release the hedgehog. In these cases, we try to return the hedgehog to the same postcode area.

Do you have a dog?

Yes but a separate area for wildlife

Having a dog does not necessarily mean you cannot release a hedgehog. However, we do need to know the dog will not be able to approach the hedgehog or pick it up. For hedgehogs, this is a predator attack. Some hedgehogs have been bitten by dogs, and in these cases we do not rehome to a garden with a dog.

If you have a dog, please confirm you will ensure it is kept away from the hedgehog.

We do not keep hedgehogs in captive gardens. They need to roam 10-14 gardens every night and do not thrive in captivity.
